With Jürgen Klopp now in charge of Liverpool, the Merseyside club’s recruitment over the summer has seen some relatively impressive arrivals.
Georginio Wijnaldum, who was by far one of Newcastle’s better performers last season, will relish the German’s style of play while Sadio Mané already knows the Premier League well enough to make a direct impact.
Other arrivals here and there have certainly helped bolster a fragile squad (especially in defence), and a couple transfers more could be expected before the end of the window.
The departure of Christian Benteke seems inevitable at some stage, while Klopp’s recent comments about Lazar Markovic suggest he could be sold if he doesn’t adapt to how the former Dortmund manager wants to play.
This could, in turn, lead to an arrival of a player capable to do just that, and Il Tempo seem to think Ajax’s Anwar El Ghazi could be that man.
Lazio in Serie A have made the Dutchman their ‘dream’ replacement for Antonio Candreva, but the Italian newspaper state they will face competition, including from Liverpool.
The Eredivisie side are said to want to start negotiations at around €18m, which you would expect the Premier League side to recoup were they to sell Markovic, who arrived for €25m from Benfica two years ago.
One to keep an eye on, but it’s worth pointing out El Ghazi to Liverpool hasn’t really been of interest to the rest of the European media since the beginning of June.
This could just be a rehash of old stories to make him seem more wanted to Lazio fans.
