Alessandro Diamanti’s time at West Ham was the definition of short but sweet.
Brought in from Livorno for £6m or so, the now 35-year-old left just a season later for a £4m deficit as Gianfranco Zola appeared to favour other players ahead of his compatriot.
Still, in one season, the forward managed to score eight goals and pick up six assists, and there was no denying an affinity grew between the player and the club in that brief period.
Claiming a few years ago that he probably wouldn’t leave the Hammers that summer if he could do it all over again, Diamanti has, once again, had lovely things to say about the club.
In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport on Friday, he was asked what the best moment of his career was.
He said: “There’s many. The games with the national team. Being captain at Bologna and Palermo, West Ham, promotion with Livorno. Any moment where I could play football well: that’s the most beautiful thing”.
The forward also revealed he would be taking his son to England soon to make him watch a Premier League game, and he mentioned London as the place he would do it.
Our guess is he’ll end up at London Stadium to show Taddeo, who is five, the club he was once a part of.
