Maybe it’s because it was Sunday night/Monday morning, but today’s editions of Italian newspapers featured a bit of sass we’re not used to when it comes to rumours starting in England.

After Gazzetta dello Sport’s clarification of the ‘Wilshere to Juventus’ claims, it’s now Il Mattino’s turn to give their two cents on a story that started on our side of the Channel involving Lorenzo Insigne to Liverpool.

The Italian forward, who very recently pledged his allegiance to his beloved club until 2022, is apparently seen on Merseyside as a potential replacement for Philippe Coutinho, were he to leave, but the local newspaper are having none of it.

Il Mattino, looking in unprecedented detail at the story, state the idea of a possible Lorenzo Insigne transfer to Liverpool ‘enters the realm of science-fiction’ right now, such is the player’s devotion to the Serie A club.

For them, the fact Jürgen Klopp’s admiration for the player dates back to his time at Borussia Dortmund means very little, and with Napoli looking very good entering the new season, moving now makes very little sense.

He’s settled, loves the club and has a great understanding with his current teammates.

Why change that now?
