The Italian press are currently trying to solve the mysterious puzzle that is Mario Mandzukic.
The Croatian target-man, who scored fairly regularly for Juventus last season (13 goals in 36 appearances), has struggled to find the back of the net so far this season (no goals in seven appearances), something which hasn’t been a problem for his country.
As they go through all the possible reasons why this might be the case, Corriere dello Sport also have a look at the slightly busy summer Mandzukic went through, including suffering a disappointing Euros with his country.
Three clubs declared their interest in his services, and one of those happened to be Arsenal.
The Italian newspaper claim Arsène Wenger’s club were the first to enquire about the player’s availability, as the Frenchman looked to bring a new striker to the Emirates, finally settling for Lucas Pérez from Deportivo La Coruña.
Then came Paris Saint-Germain, followed by an offer from Shandong Luneng in China, who eventually chucked a lot of money at Graziano Pellè instead.
As for a January transfer, that also seems unlikely, especially considering how much Juventus still trust him, having invested £16m to buy him from Atlético Madrid in 2015.
Still, another one to add to the list of strikers Wenger allegedly looked at in the summer.
