Former Nottingham Forest director of football Filippo Giraldi could be set for his return to football with Italian side Sampdoria.
That’s according to Il Secolo XIX, relayed by Club Doria 46, who say the sporting director is one of two names being eyed up by the Italian club.
The newspaper explains that Sampdoria are currently questioning their ‘entire organisational chart’ and there is a growing belief they need to bring in a real sporting director to help lead the club.
They want a man with experience who is able to manage ‘even complicated situations’, like the one at the current club.
One of the names that is ‘starting to circulate insistently’ is that of Giraldi, who has been out of work since leaving Nottingham Forest in April.
He is seen as a more likely option that rivel Javier Ribalta at this moment in time as Ribalta is believed to be demanding a salary that would be far out of Sampdoria’s reach.
Giraldo, for those that are unaware, was Chief Scout at Watford from 2012 to 2017 as well as acting as technical director from 2014 to 2017 before then taking on the Sporting Director role at Nottingham Forest in October 2022 7
He managed just six months in the role before leaving in April, with questions over his work at the club as Steve Cooper’s side sat in the relegation zone.
He’s been out of work since but could now be handed his chance to return to Italy with Sampdoria, who very much have him on their list and seem to favour him simply because he might be the cheaper, more realistic option.
