Salernitana forward Massimo Coda has extended his contract to 2020, according to reports in the Italian media. Coda was linked with a move to Leeds United in the summer after the Championship held talks to sign the player.
La Cittadi Salerno have revealed Coda has agreed to extend his contract after his previous deal was set to end in 2018. The 27-year-old will now earn €350k a season with the Serie B side, plus goal bonuses. Under the ownership of Lazio president Claudio Lotito, the Salernitana club have invested heavily in securing the future of its key players, and their star forward is now the latest.
However, despite Coda agreeing to extend his contract there were claims in the summer Salernitana were trying to offload the player with Leeds United keen to sign him
During the last transfer window, we covered reports from Italy that Massimo Cellino was showing an interest in Coda, and was hoping to pull off a deal with the Serie B side before the deadline.
Despite no offer coming in from the Championship side it’s been claimed officials from Leeds United held meetings in Milan with the sporting director of Salernitana to thrash out a deal.
However, Leeds United’s approach came too late in the window, so a deal couldn’t be done in time. Salernitana have since reacted to the Leeds United efforts, and tied down their star man.
