Massimo Carrera, who worked as assistant manager under Chelsea boss Antonio Conte at Juventus and with the Italian national team, has been speaking to Italian website Calciomercato.

Carrera didn’t join Conte at Chelsea this summer and instead went to Spartak Moscow as an assistant manager, and was later appointed as the manager of the Russian club.

Asked why he didn’t make the move to England, Carrera insists Chelsea didn’t ‘create the conditions’ to follow Conte to London, and that he was forced to opt for a different club.

He said: “Actually, it was quite forced, because Chelsea did not create the conditions to follow the coach even in this experience.”

Chelsea are at the top of the standings, and Carrera says he isn’t surprised by that.

He added: “I’m not at all surprised by what the coach is doing in England, we talk about the absolute number one in both the ability to prepare matches tactically and in motivating players.

“Having known him well and knowing how he works, I consider him the best of coaches out there.”

At Chelsea, Conte has Angelo Alessio, Gianluca Conte, and Steve Holland in his back-room staff.
