Turkey national team manager Senol Gunes has spoken to the media ahead of the country’s highly anticipated clash against Albania.
The former Besiktas manager expressed his thoughts on Cenk Tosun, who has only made one Premier League appearance this season for Marco Silva’s struggling Everton side.
Speaking about Tosun, and quoted by Milliyet, Gunes said the player isn’t ready for Turkey and his lack of club football is to blame: “Cenk isn’t ready. He is on the bench at Everton for quite a while. This isn’t a cool situation for us. We want him to play. But unfortunately, that’s not been the case for him at the moment. Hopefully, he will solve his situation soon.”
The 28 year old doesn’t seem to be in the plans of Silva, with the Everton boss preferring the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Moise Kean ahead of him.
This is now having an impact on his international career and due to a lack of games it seems he’s fallen out of favour with Gunes, despite scoring for his country during the last break.
Tosun, who was linked with a move back to the Super Lig in the summer, is under contract with Everton until June 2022.
