Bayern Munich are hoping to reach an agreement with Anthony Gordon so they can put pressure on Newcastle United to lower their asking price.
SportBILD report on the plan drawn up by the German giants ahead of the summer as they look to sign Gordon on the cheap.
Transfer meeting
According to the newspaper, Bayern Munich are pushing ahead with plans to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United this summer.
They want competition up front and value the English wingers versatility. Thus, Max Eberl and Bayern are now making a ‘strong push’ to sign the 25-year-old.
Part of the reasoning is because of the competition. Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United have also been credited with an interest in the Newcastle forward. Bayern, though, are not deterred by that.
Rather, they’ve been planning behind the scenes to come out on top. According to Sport BILD’s information, Gordon’s agent, Gordon Stipic-Wipfler of the Unique Sports Group agency, went to Munich last week for concrete talks.
He negotiated for his client and figures were discussed. Newcastle want £75m, around €86m, but Bayern won’t pay that.
Isak Blueprint
Instead, the plan for Bayern is to personally convince Anthony Gordon of the move first. The plan is to have that in place before they approach Newcastle United.
They can then use that as leverage to bring Newcastle’s asking price down. The fact the Magpies won’t be in Europe and are pressured by Financial Fair Play regulations also works in Bayern’s favour.
On this front, Harry Kane has already been deployed to speak to his England teammate. The 32-year-old has, reportedly, already tried to convince Gordon of the move in a personal meeting.
It’s a very similar situation to the one Newcastle faced with Alexander Isak last summer. He too reached a personal agreement with Liverpool and pushed for the move, which was eventually granted.
Clearly Bayern want Gordon to act in a similar way and, perhaps, force his way out of St James Park.
