For the past two months, multiple claims from Argentina have stated Manchester City are one of the clubs to have shown interest in Boca Juniors young star Valentín Barco.
On October 4th, Planeta Boca Juniors stated the treble winners are planning to make an offer to sign 19-year-old in January and will then allow him to return to the Argentine club on loan until next summer.
Barco has also been linked to several other clubs but former Manchester City star Sergio Agüero states the Etihad will be the teenager’s next destination. He made this claim on Twitch when Boca Juniors fans asked about Barco’s future, and his quotes are relayed by Olé.
“Very good player. Is he going to last a little longer at Boca or not? I don’t think he’ll last long. He’s very good. City will surely take him,” he said.
The Argentina U20 international has a deal until 2024 which has a $10m [€9.5m] release clause, and recent claims have stated his club are trying to tie him down to a new contract.
Last month, Boca Juniors vice-president Juan Román Riquelme had urged the player to continue his development at the club when directly asked about the reports linking him to Manchester City.
This year, Barco has been used a left winger, left wing-back and also as a left-back, and has managed one goal and three assists from 23 games.
