Ipswich Town loanee Arijanet Muric has done well during his loan Sassuolo this season.

This prompted the Italian club’s CEO Giovani Carnevali to publicly praise the goalkeeper. He also clarified the intention to sign him permanently in the summer.

Sport Witness covered those comments, and at the time Sassuolo’s valuation of the player remained unclear.

Things may have taken a drastic turn for the player though, as he made a critical error in stoppage time against Lazio on Monday. This denied Sassuolo a point, as the Rome side picked up a dramatic win.

This has prompted the stance around the player to change. Doubts are emerging about a permanent deal with Ipswich Town.

Muric has to turn things around

SassuoloNews note that Muric finds himself at a crossroads in his Sassuolo adventure. His initial performances had been key to the Neroverdi’s form and rise up the table, but that form has now faded.

Second-choice Stefano Turati is being considered as a possible starter by Fabio Grosso, with Muric’s situation seen as ‘gross uncertainty’. The situation is at a point where the disappointment is overshadowing the good things he did earlier in the campaign.

As a result, there are doubts about a permanent deal with Ipswich Town.

Grosso’s side have an option to buy at €10m and this is seen as an amount which will make Sassuolo think twice about investing. Carnevali – as mentioned earlier, is a fan but everything will now depend on how the Kosovo international performs in the remainder of the campaign.

Our take on Muric’s Ipswich Town future

Ipswich Town

Sassuolo seem set to stay in Serie A and Kieran McKenna’s side can earn promotion to the Premier League. There’s positives ahead for both clubs.

Muric has Premier League experience and has also impressed in Serie A. That is why if the Italian side do not exercise their option to buy the 27-year-old, Ipswich Town can keep him in their squad for next season.

The overreaction to a poor performance may well be an effort to build a narrative that €10m is too much. Despite that, the Championship club will be confident with the valuation and ability to get the money from elsewhere should they so desire.

Such transfer games aren’t unheard of from Serie A clubs. Options attached to loan deals are often seen as a negotiation starting point rather than a fixed price. This is especially true when loaning from England, and Ipswich Town are set to experience what many Premier League clubs have.
