Ipswich Town have turned their attention to Uruguayan defender Sebastián Cáceres and have already seen a bid rejected for him.

That’s according to El Pais and ESPN, who both have information on Ipswich’s bid for the América today.

El Pais kick things off, reporting that sources close to the player have confirmed that Ipswich Town are pursuing the 26-year-old centre-back.

In fact, they are believed to have made an undisclosed bid in the last few hours and that is being considered by América. The newspaper adds that it’s not the first time Cáceres has been linked with a move away, as Spartak Moscow also tried to sign him this summer.

ESPN, meanwhile, state that Ipswich made their bid for Cáceres on Thursday. This has been confirmed by three independent sources, although they say it is considered ‘very low’ by América.

These same informants report that América are willing to do a deal with Ipswich for the defender, but the Championship side would have to increase their offer considerably for that to happen.

These sources don’t offer the value put forward by Ipswich, but ESPN point out that Transfermarkt have the player valued at €5m.

Sources close to Cáceres had been pushing the idea of a move to Europe earlier this summer but that has now changed, and he is reportedly happy to remain where he is for the time being.

Now Ipswich are trying to tempt him away, but their first bid is too low as far as the Mexican side are concerned. Whether they improve it remains to be seen.
