The international break may have worked wonders for Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels chances of being Belgium’s number one at Euro 2024.
That’s according to Voetbal Primeur, who say the Nottingham Forest goalkeeper’s performances against Ireland and England will have done his chances of impressing Domenico Tedesco the world of good.
They report that Sels is ‘creeping closer’ to current number one Koen Casteels and he could turn the current hierarchy upside down in the coming months.
They believe the Nottingham Forest number one has taken a ‘golden opportunity’ with both hands in this international break, continuing his momentum up his country’s current goalkeeper rankings.
He saved a penalty against Ireland and was key in the draw with England, ensuring the score was only 2-2 with an assured display.
They say you can be sure that Sels has ‘scored points’ in Tedesco’s rankings and may have even sparked a debate for the Belgium manager ahead of Euro 2024.
He’s already made it clear that Casteels is his number one but Sels ‘has crept closer’ and his performances will have him thinking.
They also believe he deserves praise for moving to Nottingham Forest in January as that’s not only put him more in the spotlight but also ensured he’ll receive more praise than he ever would playing in Ligue 1.
It’s all going well for him, even if Nottingham Forest are in a relegation battle, and this international break has worked wonders for his chances of being number one for his country this summer.
