Paul Onuachu had scored 17 goals from 22 games for KRC Genk in the first half of the last season and his fine form convinced Southampton to buy him in the winter market.
The striker failed to replicate the Genk form at St Mary’s as he failed to score a goal from 11 league matches. The Saints were relegated from the Premier League last season.
Journalist Sacha Tavolieri now claims the Southampton player could return to the Jupiler Pro League side.
Tavolieri further states the talks between the two clubs have already taken place but the fee requested by Southampton is deemed ‘too high’ by the Belgian team. The journalist adds this is an ‘evolving situation’, suggesting there could be developments in this case.
On Tuesday, Genk manager Wouter Vrancken admitted his side would welcome Onuachu back at the club, as long as the deal is favourable to them.
