Gyrano Kerk has revealed he had an opportunity to join Leeds United when he was at FC Utrecht.

The winger came up through the ranks of the Eredivisie side’s youth system before he made it to their senior team in September 2014. The following season, he spent on loan at Helmond Sport.

Last summer, the Dutch club allowed the 26-year-old to seal a permanent transfer to Lokomotiv Moscow. A year before that, the Whites came forward to take him away from FC Utrecht.

The Amsterdam born player made these claims during an interview with ELF Voetbal and relayed by FC UtrechtFans.

“There were possibilities to take a step higher in the Eredivisie, but that interest did not materialise,” he said.

“After that canceled KNVB Cup final [in 2020 due to pandemic], Utrecht also wanted to keep me in order to start the fiftieth anniversary year as strong as possible. There was interest from Leeds United at the time, but in the end that did not go through.”

The Dutchman then went to detail why Marcelo Bielsa couldn’t sign him in 2020. Despite failing to seal a switch to England, Kerk still dreams of a transfer to England.

“It also didn’t help that the competition was temporarily suspended. As a result, and due to FC Utrecht’s high asking price, clubs looked to other options. I still have the ambition to go to England. But I’m in no rush,” the player stressed.

Kerk has managed two goals and two assists in 17 appearances this season for Lokomotiv Moscow, where he has a contract until 2025.
