Atlético Madrid intend to make the signing of Julián Álvarez from Manchester City official this afternoon.
That’s according to El Chiringuito and journalist Marcos Benito, who report that the Manchester City man will be announced today ahead of having a medical and being presented next week.
Atlético accelerated their efforts to sign Álvarez this week, quickly striking a deal with Manchester City that could see them pay as much as €90m for the Argentinian striker if various bonuses are met down the line.
Álvarez is reportedly keen on the switch as he no longer wants to play second fiddle to Erling Haaland and Atlético have offered him a starring role as the replacement for Alvaro Morata.
A deal has quickly been agreed, with Manchester City seemingly deciding to grant the 24-year-old his wish and pocketing a huge profit on a player who cost them €21.4m in January 2022.
The full agreement now appears to be ready to go, with El Chiringuito reporting that Atlético intend to make the striker’s move from Manchester City official today.
That is despite the fact that he’s yet to undergo a medical, which is booked in for next week with the Spanish side.
It seems they’re confident that there will be no problems and so want everything official as soon as possible before testing the World Cup winner and presenting him to fans next week.
