Manchester United target João Neves has everything required to shine in the Premier League, should the Red Devils decide to move for him in future.
That’s according to his former trainer Luis Castro, who has praised the midfielder to O Jogo when speaking to them today.
Neves appears to be one of the latest rising stars of Portuguese football after establishing himself as a key player for Benfica under Roger Schmidt.
He continued his rise this week with another impressive display in the Champions League, shining despite Benfica’s poor start to their campaign in the 2-0 loss to RB Salzburg.
He ‘stood out’ in that game despite the poor performance overall from his team and the belief is that will not have gone unnoticed by the clubs who are interested in him.
Manchester United are one of them according to the newspaper, with this latest display only having further presented his rising star and the status he now enjoys at Benfica.
“My friends ask me if Kökçü cost 25 million euros, how much will João Neves cost. He will be worth much more than €25 million,” he says.
“(He can) play in any championship in the world. (He’s) a complete and very intelligent player.
“The Premier League is the best league in the world, and not only would he be able to adapt, but he would also play and shine.
“Knowing João, I think he is not worried about the next step but about the next game. He had good training at Benfica, but at family level he also had a lot of support. He is very focused. I believe that if and when he takes the leap he will be prepared.
“He started training with the A team around the time of the World Cup because they needed him, and I told my technical team that we probably wouldn’t see him again. I knew his quality and his way of working.”
