On Thursday, AS reported Tottenham Hotspur continue to insist on signing Barcelona’s Clément Lenglet and that the deal could be delayed until the last day of the window.
Later that day, Sport reported the La Liga side have given up in their negotiations to sell the 28-year-old to Spurs and are likely to push for a loan deal.
Mundo Deportivo state the Tottenham target is set for an exit despite Barca registering him for La Liga.
The Frenchman is eligible to feature against Villareal on Sunday but hasn’t been assigned a number so far.
Lenglet was on loan at the north London club last season. Mundo state he has received interest from the Premier League, where Spurs are keen to sign him again.
Barca preferred to sell the centre-back and since an agreement couldn’t be found, it’s said a new loan deal ‘can be renewed’. The newspaper adds the key to the operation would be for the club that’ll sign him will have to pay part of his €16m per year salary.
AS also state the Catalan club have registered the player on La Liga’s website. They explain that this is done to ‘generate fair play since his departure is imminent’.
In other words, registering Lenglet and then offloading him even on a loan deal will help Barca to get rid at least part of his salary.
This is needed for them to register the likes of Iñaki Pena, Marcos Alonso and Íñigo Martínez.
When talking about his next move, AS state Lenglet’s destination will be in the Premier League and ‘more specifically Tottenham’.
