Liverpool’s interest in Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow has nothing to do with Arne Slot, although he should choose Arsenal anyway if given the choice.
That’s according to journalists Lars Teunissen and Dennie van Laar, who have covered the Dutch goalkeeper and where he could end up this summer.
The Dutchman has long been the number one for Feyenoord, after moving into their first team from the youth set up in July 2016.
He’s since made 143 appearances for the club and kept 54 clean sheets in total, as well as establishing himself with the Netherlands, making eight appearances for them since his debut in 2021.
At 26-years-old there is a growing feeling that this summer may be the ideal time for him to move on and reports in the Netherlands have credited Arsenal and Liverpool with an interest.
They may both be looking for new back-up goalkeepers this summer, with Aaron Ramsdale and Caoimhin Kelleher both hoping to secure moves and become number ones elsewhere.
Bijlow could be an ideal low-cost option to replace both and a move to Liverpool would see him reunite with Arne Slot, who he’s worked alongside at Feyenoord.
Their interest has nothing to do with him, though, according to Teunissen, while Van Laar believes Arsenal is the better option anyway.
“It is good to mention that Arne Slot has nothing to do with this yet, Liverpool already had him on the list before Slot’s appointment,” Teunissen said.
“He’s 26, so you shouldn’t play second fiddle.” Van Laar added.
“Arsenal is interesting, they rotate there,” says van Laar. After all, Mikel Arteta swaps David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale every now and then, but the latter seems to be leaving.”
“If you are in the luxury position of choosing between Liverpool and Arsenal, go to Arsenal,” Teunissen concluded.
