Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz is destined to join one of the ‘greatest’ sides in Europe and Liverpool are one of them.
That’s according to SportBILD, who speculate what the future could hold for the player and insist Liverpool will very much be in the picture should he decide to move on in the near future.
They explain that Wirtz is currently taking the next step on the road from top talent to top star, with a series of impressive performances already this season and six goals and nine assists in 15 games in all competitions so far.
That’s already seen him handed a starring role for the national side, where he will be a key player in the Euros, and the return of attention from around Europe after his long injury lay off with a cruciate ligament rupture.
The belief is that he is a ‘future world star’, at least, that’s how he’s seen at Bayer Leverkusen and by the German national team set up.
His current deal with Leverkusen expires in 2027 and he is not particularly concerned about his future at the moment, with his father and advisor Hans-Joachim Wirtz recently insisting that the aim is to win the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen first.
But SportBILD say ‘one thing is clear’ and that is if Wirtz does move, he wants to go to a club where he has a realistic chance of winning the Champions League.
For them that list is currently limited to four clubs, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Liverpool and Bayern Munich. Wirtz is aiming for ‘the greatest’ and those are the clubs considered as such.
Alonso played for three of them, of course, first starring for Liverpool, then Real Madrid and later Bayer Munich so he is well placed to advise his star man moving forwards.
Whether that means he will tell him to join Liverpool remains to be seen but at least in Germany, they’re convinced they’ll be an option when the time comes to make a choice.
