Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa has ‘aroused the interest’ of Manchester United but it will take €75m for them to get a deal over the line.
That’s according to A Bola, who say that while it ‘won’t be easy’ for Porto to keep the goalkeeper it will take a huge sum to secure his signature.
Costa has been in impressive form for Porto this season, conceding just 11 goals in 19 games in Liga Portugal so far as well as managing an impressive 10 clean sheets.
The 23-year-old’s performances have not gone unnoticed in Europe, particularly in the Premier League, where Manchester United are believed to be keen on him.
They could be on the hunt for David de Gea’s long-term successor in the coming months and there is a belief that Costa fits the bill and earlier this month Manchester United ‘spies’ were at a Porto game to watch him.
That’s one of numerous visits they’ve made in the last few months, with it even claimed back in December they would have no issue matching his clause.
A Bola reiterate today that that is set at €75m, with Costa currently tied down until a deal until June 2027.
That deal includes the ‘millionaire clause’ to deter suitors but there is a belief that thanks to the ‘huge rise in value’ he’s enjoyed in the last few months, plus him now being Portugal’s number one, ‘it won’t be easy’ for Porto to keep him regardless.
He is in the ‘jewel in the crown’ at the club and they will fight to keep him, with chief Pinto da Costa insisting any exits will always be for the ‘value of the clauses’.
It remains to be seen if Manchester United are willing to do that, but as far as they are concerned in Portugal the value isn’t up for debate and Costa has already proved to be a good bet.
