Four days ago, Voetbal International reported Feyenoord have put an end to negotiations with Nottingham Forest over a deal for Santiago Giménez. The Reds had already made two offers, which weren’t entertained by the Eredivisie side.
The Premier League side then focused on Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah but weren’t able to get that deal over the line.
De Telegraaf say Nottingham Forest have now returned with a new bid of €33m including bonuses.
It’ll be clear ‘within 48 hours’ whether Giménez will accept a move to Nottingham Forest or continue at the Dutch club.
Earlier in this window, Feyenoord sold Mats Wieffer to Brighton & Hove Albion for a club-record fee of €32m. They want Giménez’s sale to surpass this figure.
De Telegraaf claim the €33m figure from Nuno Espírito Santo’s side is ‘just for show’. Their title says Nottingham Forest ‘mislead with a so-called record bid’ for the frontman.
The fee includes bonuses, and it depends on the performances of both Nottingham Forest and Giménez being ‘extremely good’. Feyenoord believe these bonuses aren’t realistic and it’s almost impossible to collect a club-record fee.
Feyenoord will have talks with Giménez today, to find out whether he wants to continue or leave. If he decides to leave, it’ll only be possible if their asking price is met.
The report claims Nottingham Forest must offer ‘quite a few million’ more to secure the Mexican’s services before the window closes on Friday.
