Manchester United can complete the signing of PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo if they put €50m on the table.

That’s according to journalist Rik Elfrink, who has questioned the player’s ability to deliver in the big games.

Manchester United are continuing to delve into the Dutch market this summer, having already signing Tyrell Malacia and Lisandro Martinez from Feyenoord and Ajax respectively.

They’re now targeting a deal for Antony but have also been linked with Gakpo and reports have indicated they may try and sign both players.

Gakpo is likely to be more readily available after PSV failed to qualify for the Champions League last night, their defeat to Rangers meaning sales are likely to raise the funds the Dutch side have missed out on.

That gives Manchester United the chance to get their man if they are genuinely interested and Elfrink says a deal is possible if they put €50m on the table.

“PSV has to take the step up to the Champions League once and this was an excellent opportunity, but they did not seize it,” Voetbal Primeur report him saying.

“Several players didn’t deliver; I didn’t see the big boys. Harsh conclusion: PSV had no right to anything.

“He (Gakpo) was not that bad, but as a top player you have to deliver at moments like these. He did not live up to that.

“On the other hand: if Manchester United thinks he is worth €50m, he will normally leave. It remains to be seen.”
