Manchester City and Manchester United will go head-to-head for the signing of Sporting Club de Portugal’s Francisco Trincao this summer.

That’s the continued insistence from A Bola, who are convinced there will be a Manchester rivalry for the winger in the coming months.

The newspaper insists that goals for the Portuguese national team in this international break have put the spotlight on the player and both Manchester City and Manchester United are ‘on the lookout’ for him.

The pair are believed to be ‘very attentive’ to Trincao’s performances and his goals in the international break have only added to that.

The belief is that at 25-years-old he is now beginning to show all the potential that was predicted for him at such a young ago.

Clubs in Spain and Germany are also keeping an eye on the Sporting star, although the Portuguese will want to keep him at all costs.

The English press immediately pointed out Manchester United’s interest this week and while there was no mention of Manchester City, A Bola insist there could be a classic transfer battle between the two this summer.

That comes from the fact Hugo Viana is now in charge of transfers at the Etihad, while obviously the link to United is with Ruben Amorim. A report last week insisted both remain big fans of the player and A Bola’s insistence is that his international performances will have added to that.

We seriously doubt either side would be keen, though, particularly after Trincao very publically folded and flopped at Barcelona earlier in his career.

Instead, this feels like a further hype job, particularly when the newspaper then insists the Portuguese side want €80m to ensure they get at least €40m because Barca hold a 50% clause.
