On Friday, El País and ESPN reported Ipswich Town have made a bid for Sebastián Cáceres. They made no mention of the fee offered but insisted Club América need more to sanction his sale this summer.
A fresh report from ESPN backs up the Mexican club rejecting Ipswich Town’s bid for the 26-year-old and provides the latest.
Club América aren’t closing the door to negotiate the centre-back’s sale and ESPN reports they are waiting for a new offer, most likely from Ipswich Town.
There’s no mention of their request or the fee needed to convince Club América to carry out a sale.
The Uruguay international is highly valued by his current employer and has two years left on his contract.
According to the report, the defender is aware of the Championship club’s offer but isn’t convinced to move to the second division of English football.
Cáceres has made it Marcelo Bielsa’s squad even though he hasn’t been at his best. A move to a new league and country, with a different language, means he’ll need time to adapt.
The South American is concerned this could impact his place in the national team for the 2026 World Cup.
Although Ipswich Town play in a league that’s quite competitive, it isn’t followed widely. Therefore, ESPN suggests the player could ‘fall off the radar’ if he were to join Kieran McKenna’s side.
Meanwhile, Club América sporting director Santiago Baño has confirmed receiving a bid for Cáceres and has opened the door for his exit. He was asked about the Uruguayan and Brian Rodríguez at a press conference and La Razón have relayed his comments.
“Neither Brian nor Sebas are indispensable. An offer came in for Cáceres, but it wasn’t the price we expected for a national team player who has been here for a long time. Until the leagues around the world close, we can’t guarantee there won’t be any more arrivals or departures,” he said.
