Matheus Cunha completed a loan move to Wolverhampton Wanderers from Atlético Madrid on January 1st. The deal will automatically become permanent, should “certain clauses be triggered”.
The Brazil international has made 11 appearances in all competitions for Wolves this year, which includes five league starts.
Cunha is still waiting to score his first goal for Wolves and has managed only one assist, which came in their EFL Cup loss to Nottingham Forest.
The 23-year-old and João Félix [currently on loan at Chelsea] pushed for moves away from the La Liga side in the winter market. Since the latter left the Madrid club, they have not lost a league game.
This is highlighted in today’s Marca, who state Cunha’s situation hasn’t improved after he moved to Wolves. In his farewell letter to Atlético fans, he took a dig at Diego Simeone.
It’s said the South American has made more headlines for his farewell letter than for his displays for Wolves. He hasn’t been able to enjoy his best version under Julen Lopetegui so far.
Atlético are a better team without both Cunha and Félix in their squad, according to the report. Marca insinuate Los Rojiblancos are Very happy with their decision to allow the Brazilian to join Wolves.
