After claims from England that Chelsea could be set to make their first offer for Malo Gusto, it appears the trigger has been pulled.
This comes from France via Foot Mercato, who claim the ‘insatiable’ Blues have ‘knocked on the door’ of Lyon to ‘submit their first bid’ to John Textor and Jean-Michel Aulas for the right-back.
That’s a position Chelsea have been wanting to bolster for quite some time, and the injury to Reece James only meant they would definitely make a move for someone in January.
Many thought it would be Denzel Dumfries, long thought to be the favourite, but it appears Todd Boehly has decided to throw the pitch sink at Gusto.
Foot Mercato explain the amount of the offer ‘has yet to filter’, but the answer from Lyon is clear: ‘under no circumstances will they consider an exit’ of the player in January.
As for the player himself, a move midway through a campaign where he is playing every game under Laurent Blanc ‘is not in his career plan’.
Therefore, matters have been made clear to Chelsea, who will either take no for an answer or simply come back with more money to try and convince both Gusto and his club to accept a move to Stamford Bridge in the near future.
