An injury to Leicester City midfielder Dennis Praet stopped a deadline day return to Torino, despite contacts between the two clubs having ‘intensified’ over the last days of the transfer window.
That’s according to Calciomercato, who say the Belgian midfielder is at risk of missing the first three months of the season through injury and that scuppered a planned departure.
Praet spent last season on loan with Torino and was a key player for the Italian club, so much so that they wanted to sign him on a permanent basis this summer.
A deal was negotiated across the entire transfer window, with Leicester more than happy to sell for the right price. Agreeing that price with Torino proved to be problematic, though, with the Italians reluctant to spend despite wanting the midfielder back.
It meant Praet ultimately ended up staying in England, with the two sides unable to agree a deal before the window closed last night.
Calciomercato explain that Leicester and Torino had been talking in recent days, indeed contact between them had ‘intensified’ but an injury to the midfielder ‘blocked the deal’.
According to them, Praet is set to miss as many as three months of the season with an injury and when they discovered as much, Torino decided to ‘interrupt the negotiations’.
His injury lay off is set to be longer than they had expected and so didn’t want to sign him now, but he is an option that ‘will be discussed’ once again when January rolls around.
