Brighton and Hove Albion youngster Jeremy Sarmiento could return earlier than expected from the hamstring injury picked up earlier this month.

That’s according to El Universo, citing commentator Óscar Portilla, who has been provided information by the player’s agents.

Sarmiento was injured on his debut for the Seagulls earlier this month, hobbling off after 11 minutes with a hamstring injury.

It was later confirmed by the player that the injury was a bad one, with him and Brighton’s medical staff electing to go for surgery to solve the problem.

That looked likely to keep him out for at least four months, a bitter blow for a young player who had just made his first steps in the Premier League.

However, it appears he is recovering quicker than expected, with Portilla revealing the news on El Canal de Futbol.

“Jeremy Sarmiento is in an extraordinary recovery process, much faster than expected,” El Universo reports him saying.

“He has been walking without crutches for several days, he leads a normal life, he goes to the gym, he has a personal physiotherapist.

“And they have just confirmed to me that it is most likely that in a month and a half I will be playing soccer; this means that, after the first week of February, he can already be on the fields playing soccer.

“The specialists have calculated that maximum in a month and a half he will be able to be on the fields playing soccer.”

That will come as good news for Brighton, who will be keen to get the youngster back and playing as soon as possible.

There is clearly a confidence in him given Graham Potter was willing to hand him his debut against the Hammers in the first place, and the injury will have been a bitter blow to their plans for him.

It seems things are not as bad as first, though, though, and he can continue his development between now and the end of the season as planned.
