It is ‘inevitable’ that Chelsea will make a firm offer for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, having already initiated contacts for him.

That’s according to Tuttosport, who cover the striker’s situation today and how long Napoli can keep hold of one of their star men.

Tuttosport explain that Osimhen’s recent return from injury and goalscoring form has brought about the question of how long Napoli can keep hold of him.

They are ‘exposed to the assaults of the pirate vessels’ of the Premier League but have set a huge price on a player who has already cost them €70m in transfers fees and everything else.

That ‘speaks volumes’ and already in the summer, when rumours about Manchester United and Newcastle were plentiful, they announced they would not discuss a deal for less than €100m.

Since then, Chelsea have moved to the front of the queue, and it is not yet clear whether they would be willing to pay such a figure.

Napoli aren’t concerned as they once convinced someone to pay €90m for Gonzalo Higuain and are confident they can negotiate well for Osimhen.

The €100m figure is not set in stone anyway but rather a starting point at which to reach the move ‘credible figure’ of €65m reported elsewhere.

What they do know is that keeping Osimhen is difficult given Premier League clubs, even the mid-range ones, can increase his €4.25m a year salary ‘considerably’.

Chelsea certainly can and there is a belief that it is ‘inevitable’ they will hold talks, with recent reports stating they’ve already begun.

Napoli, though, have no intention of ‘dismantling’ their stance.
