Last week, Calciomercato reported on Sunderland’s interest in AC Milan’s Santiago Gimenez.
It was claimed the Black Cats and Brentford have contacted the player’s entourage about a move. Both clubs are presented as being keen on landing the striker.
So far at Milan, the Mexican has struggled. He joined from Feyenoord in January, scoring five times in the second half of last season. In the current campaign, he is yet to score even once.
That is why an exit from the Rossoneri is possible. Today’s TuttoSport looks at the striker’s situation and there’s some hope for Sunderland.
The newspaper states the 24-year-old’s sale can dictate how Milan recruit in the January transfer window.
Clubs in the Premier League have made initial enquiries for the player, perhaps indicating that Sunderland have done the same.
For Gimenez to leave though, two conditions have to be met. Firstly, potential suitors will have to offer at least €25m to Milan, who spent €32m to sign him around ten months ago.
Secondly, Gimenez will have to be satisfied with the destination. There is no suggestion of whether he wants to compete for trophies or is seeking European football.
This can prove quite important to Sunderland, especially with Milan interested in a sale.
