Rafa Marín says Villarreal are eagerly waiting to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League.
In the summer window, the centre-back joined the Spanish club from Napoli, on loan with an option to buy.
Thursday’s edition of AS has published an interview with the 23-year-old, where he talks about the La Liga club’s upcoming games after September’s international break, including one against Tottenham.
Spurs secured a berth in the Europe’s elite club competition by winning the Europa League last season and their first group stage fixture is against the Yellow Submarine at home on September 16th.
Prior to this clash, Thomas Frank’s side will take on West Ham United in the league on Saturday while the Spanish club have an away fixture against Atlético Madrid later that day.
The newspaper specifically asked the defender about Villarreal’s next two matches against Los Rojiblancos and the north London club, and he made it clear that his side won’t back down in the away fixtures.
“There are two big games coming up. They’re special matches we’re eagerly awaiting,” he said.
“It’s incredibly motivating for a player to be able to play these types of games. It’s true that playing at home makes you feel stronger and better, but I think we’re a team that won’t back down away from home.
“When the draw was over and I saw the opponents we were facing, my hair stood on end. For anyone who loves football, being able to play in a competition like this and against opponents like these is very important. They’re great teams, but it’s 11 against 11, so we’ll see.”
Villarreal are unbeaten from three league games [two wins and a draw] while Tottenham lost their last league tie, after winning the first two league games of this season.
