Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong has hailed his time at Celtic, insisting it was an unforgettable period for him.

Frimpong joined Celtic in September 2019, signing in a £342,000 deal from Manchester City’s Under 23 side after working his way up their youth ranks after signing in July 2016.

He went on to establish himself as a key player for the Scottish Premiership giants during his two years there, making 51 appearances for Celtic in all competitions in total.

His time at Celtic Park was a highly successful one, too, with him playing regularly during the 2019/20 campaign that saw them pick up the treble of Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup.

Those are the only successes in Frimpong’s career so far, and the defender, who is now at Bayer Leverkusen after leaving Celtic in January 2021, and he looks back on his time in Scotland with fondness.

“The triple was incredible and remains unforgotten. Since then, I’ve known how rough it feels,” he told SportBILD in a recent interview about his career to date.

Now whether Frimpong is referring to last season at Celtic as ‘rough’ or his time in Germany, is up for debate.

His final few months in Scotland were hardly great, given Celtic regressed greatly and were left trailing in Rangers wake when it came to the title race.

That’s something Frimpong won’t have enjoyed given the success the previous year, but overall it seems he thinks his two years at Celtic were well worth his time.
