Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers will have a new goalkeeper soon as Kasper Schmeichel is edging closer towards completing a move to Glasgow.

The Denmark international is available on a free transfer since his deal at Anderlecht expired last month. He’s set to undergo medical tests with Celtic in Italy on Tuesday and then join his new teammates for the pre-season tour later this week.

Tipsbladet now claim the deal to take the 37-year-old to Celtic will go through soon once the last few formalities are sorted out.

The outlet are confident that the Bhoys will ‘very soon’ present the stopper as the new Celtic player.

Joe Hart was the first-choice goalkeeper for Brendan Rodgers last season. He retired from professional football back in May, forcing Celtic to look for his replacement this summer.

Former Manchester United and Chelsea defender Paul Parker has warned the Dane that he has a tough job to replace Hart.

“Joe Hart is very much loved at Celtic. The biggest problem for Schmeichel will be taking over from Hart – the Celtic fans really love him,” he said.

The Englishman believes Schmeichel will find it difficult during away games because some teams in Scotland use artificial turf. Last month, the Scottish Premiership clubs voted to stop using artificial pitches in the top division from 2026.

“When he steps into Celtic Park, it won’t affect him in the least, because from the time he was a child he experienced a stadium like Old Trafford. He has also won an English league and the FA Cup, so it won’t be an issue at all,” Parker explained.

“The hardest thing for Schmeichel may very well be Celtic’s away games. There are a lot of artificial grass pitches in Scotland because it is a cheaper solution for the clubs. It will be a big challenge.”
