Danny Röhl’s Rangers will cross paths on Thursday with a Braga side carrying a clear danger man. Ricardo Horta arrives in Glasgow in excellent form and plans to repeat his goal against Celtic, this time against Rangers at Ibrox.
The update comes from Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, who whilst previewing the Rangers match highlight the forward’s recent impact and his record against Scottish opposition.
The newspaper report that Horta, now 31, scored twice at the weekend as Braga knocked Nacional out of the Taça de Portugal. Those goals took him to eight for the season and marked his first brace of the campaign.
His scoring record against the Madeira club is also notable. He has now struck seven times against them, making Nacional one of his most frequent victims.
Rangers need to watch out for Horta
In addition, O Jogo state that the Braga captain has produced six goals and five assists in his last ten matches. He endured a slow start to the season, but has since returned to the levels expected from the club’s all-time top scorer. He has also contributed to 11 goals for the team in all competitions so far.
The report points out that Rangers will face a player with recent positive memories in the city, something manager Danny Röhl will be aware of. Horta’s only Europa League goal this season came at Celtic Park on October 2nd, when he opened the scoring with a long-range strike in a 2-0 win. He has also delivered three assists in the competition, two against Red Star and one versus Genk.
Finally, O Jogo add that Braga travel to Rangers with almost a full squad for the Ibrox match. Only Jónatas Noro is missing, and manager Carlos Vicens is looking for a reaction after the club’s last European defeat. They hope that another decisive display from Horta can take them a step closer to the knockout rounds.
