On Wednesday, Calciomerctao.it came up with a surprise claim that Antonio Conte wants to return to Chelsea and has offered himself to the Premier League side.
The report made no mention of the Blues’ response, and they are keen on bringing himback to the club, at least according to La Repubblica, relayed by CalcioNapoli24.
Conte was at Chelsea between 2016 and 2018, and won the title in his first season at the west London club.
He’s been without a job since leaving Tottenham Hotspur over a year ago and it’s claimed the Blues want to appoint him as their manager next season.
Mauricio Pochettino is now in charge and Chelsea have struggled under his orders. They are ninth in the table and it’s stated they plan to fire the Argentine after this season.
The owners of the English club ‘dream big’, and Todd Boehly has Conte on his mind. The Blues ‘will do everything they can’ to convince him to return, with an ‘important offer’ and an ambitious project.
It’s claimed Chelsea have made contacts with his entourage in the ‘last few hours’, and the report adds it has led to a fruitful summit that could see the coach return to Stamford Bridge. Boehly is now waiting for a ‘definite answer in the coming weeks’.
Conte’s desire is to remain in Italy, where the tracks leading to Napoli and AC Milan have cooled down. Milan’s project is to focus on sustainability and on young talents, and he will have to adapt to this if he wants the job at the San Siro.
Napoli, on the other hand, haven’t taken concrete steps so far, but that could change with the London club now pressing for Conte.
That may be why we’re seeing these Chelsea claims, and it could all be an effort to put pressure on Napoli.
