Fábio Carvalho’s decision to join Hull City on loan in the winter market has clearly paid off as he’s been featuring regularly for the Championship side so far.
The attacking midfielder has made 11 league starts and has scored four goals for the Tigers, who are battling for a place in the play-offs.
A Bola had a detailed chat with the 21-year-old and one of the topics discussed was his decision to join Hull City in January.
Last summer, Liverpool allowed the Portugal U21 international to join RB Leipzig on a loan deal. His stay there was cut short after he found it difficult to enjoy regular minutes.
Carvalho has now revealed that he had options to pick from both in the Premier League and the Championship, and decided to join Hull City because of Liam Rosenior.
When asked why he picked the Tigers, he said: “It was an easy choice. When I spoke to the coach, Liam, we had an immediate click.
“I also spoke to other clubs in the Championship and Premier League, but I wanted to go to a club that would give me guarantees that I could play, learn and find happiness.
“That was one of the things the Hull coach told me: ‘You have to go to a club where you play and are happy, because it’s when you’re happy that a player performs more.’ That stuck in my head. And every conversation I had with him was positive.”
At Leipzig, Carvalho made 15 appearances, including three in the Champions League. He is of the belief a move to the second division in England isn’t a step backwards for him.
“No, because I already competed in this competition. I already knew that people would talk and question why I chose Hull City and the Championship, but a footballer’s career is made up of ups and downs. And the most important thing for me now was to play all the games. I don’t care what people say: I’m fine, I’m happy and I’m playing,” Carvalho explained.
