Following big claims from beIN Sports that Liverpool were on the verge of signing Riyad Mahrez from Leicester, everyone went in a bit of a frenzy, only for nothing to happen.

The Foxes’ winger remains, for now, at King Power Stadium, where he’s enjoying himself under Claude Puel, and while a move away might still happen, it probably won’t be to Merseyside.

According to Le Buteur in Algeria, no talks have taken place between Liverpool and Leicester, as a source close to the player explained: “I saw what a few outlets said about Riyad to Liverpool, but if you want the truth, we’re not aware of any of that.

“Until we’re given proof otherwise, there has not been any contact with the club. Frankly, I’m surprised to see such nonsense.”

Not stopping there, Le Buteur go on to explain that wanting to overtake Liverpool (which we’ve already established haven’t made contact) are Arsenal, but they would have to spend the €55m Leicester City want for their star.

Wenger is said to favour Mahrez to Thomas Lemar as he’s already Premier League ready, but there’s also the fact he’d probably be a lot cheaper too.

Silly season is well and truly upon us, people.
