With the Argentine media having every right to still be celebrating their World Cup trophy, they now had a word with Brighton & Hove Albion star Alexis Mac Allister about that.
The Seagulls midfielder was one of the national team’s best players at the tournament, and in an interview aired by ESPN Argentina, he talked about that huge achievement in his career.
Mac Allister had a nice welcome party with his Brighton teammates, and now claimed he wasn’t really expecting that.
“It was a very nice welcome. I’m a very shy boy and the truth is that I was a bit embarrassed at first,” Mac Allister told ESPN.
“But I’m very grateful, they know how important these three years have been for me and sharing the champion’s medal with them is very nice and important. I didn’t expect the welcome, but it was very nice.”
Regarding the wild parties in Argentina, in which all of the national team squad took part, Mac Allister said he was really glad to get the chance to celebrate with his people.
“For the people it was crazy. The people in Argentina in general are very crazy and there were five million people on the streets in Buenos Aires celebrating the title, and it was very nice to be able to celebrate it with them. We know that there is a very big connection between the people and this Argentine national team, they were a big part of this trophy. In Santa Rosa, La Pampa, where I am from, I received a nice welcome. It is very important for us to share it with them, that they see it up close and see all the work that we did to win this cup.”
Mac Allister has 15 appearances for Brighton this season, scoring five goals, and was back in action with the Seagulls in their match against Everton this week.
The Argentine star has been surrounded by transfer rumours since the World Cup, although it’s already been said that Brighton will do their best to hold him at least until the end of the season.
