This week, Sheffield United announced the signing of Vini Souza. The midfielder was bought from Lommel SK on a €12m deal, and signed a four-year contract with the Blades.
That transfer got big coverage from the Brazilian media, especially because his former club Flamengo will be getting a percentage of the money.
Now Globo Esporte managed to have a word with Vini Souza, and asked him about the little help he’s giving the Rio de Janeiro side, even if not playing for them anymore.
“About still being able to provide Flamengo with a gain with this negotiation, I’m very satisfied. I was practically born and raised for football within Flamengo and I have a huge affection for the club. I will always be grateful for what they did for me early in my career.”
The player also talked about how glad he is to have joined Sheffield United, as he always wanted to play in English football.
“I’m very happy to be able to fulfil a childhood dream of playing in the Premier League. I’ve worked hard to get here and I hope to do it on the pitch.”
Vini Souza left Brazil back in 2020, when he was bought by Lommel SK on a €2.5m deal with Flamengo. He actually had little hcances to play for the Belgian club, as in the past few seasons, he ended up having loan spells at KV Mechelen and RCD Espanyol.
It was probably with his 37 appearances for the Spanish club last season that he caught Sheffield United’s attention, as he returned to Lommel this summer and was soon sold.
