The Tottenham goalkeeper had been called up many times to the Italy squad by Luciano Spalletti, but was never used until Sunday night, when he started and finished the 2-0 friendly win over Ecuador.
That was his first cap for his country at any level, which he will have been delighted about, on top of keeping a clean sheet.
Since joining Tottenham, the 27-year-old has conceded 43 goals in 30 appearances and kept seven clean sheets, but his performances have been a lot better than his statistics suggest.
