Victor Palsson had featured in Plymouth Argyle’s surprise win over Liverpool in the FA Cup at the weekend.
It was the midfielder’s 15th appearance of the season, as he came on in the second half and helped Miron Muslic’s side grab a historic 1-0 win at Home Park.
This is the 33-year-old’s first season at Plymouth Argyle. He has previously had stints at DC United, Schalke, Darmstadt and Danish club Esbjerg.
In an interview with TipsBladet, he has now opened up about his career and he spoke about a regret from his time in Denmark.
He stated that he was selfish during his time at Esbjerg despite being the club’s captain, and the team were relegated to the second division.
He said: “I should have had the same mentality as I have today. I was very selfish back then, but I was captain, and that’s a trait that doesn’t last in any case. I was unreasonable, and I simply didn’t do things well enough.
“I thought too much about myself and too little about the team. Well, I did my best in every game and every training session, so it’s not like that, but my mentality was bad.”
Providing more details, the veteran said: “You are expected – quite reasonably – to support them however you can, wherever you can. I simply wasn’t able to do that because I was thinking too much about myself. I’m not proud of that.”
Despite the regrets, Palsson believes he’s become a better individual by learning from his mistakes.
“The good thing is that I have learned a lot from the mistakes I made in Esbjerg, and that has benefited me since.”
The midfielder’s comments clearly show that he is now a much more mature individual than he was before.
Considering his past experience as captain, he could potentially lead the Championship side and offer them an pimproved skillset as a leader.
Plymouth Argyle definitely need more of that, as they are rock-bottom in the table and are four points away from survival. Palsson is experienced in dealing with relegation battles and can play a key role as the season goes on.
