As Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate today held a press conference with the French media, he had some laughs with the local journalists.
That’s because a reporter pointed out that the national team is full of Paris Saint Germain players, and asked the Reds’ centre-back whether there’s lobbying for him to join the Ligue 1 side.
Konate toyed with the question, and then made it clear he’s fully committed to Liverpool right now. The quotes are from RMC Sport.
“I’m not going to answer about what they do! But no, it’s true that I’m a Parisian, but I’m at Liverpool,” said Konate.
Konate was born in Paris, but only really played in France in the early years of his career, when featuring for FC Sochaux. In 2017, he moved to Germany to join RB Leipzig. It was in 2021 that Liverpool bought him for €40m.
Despite this small joke from the French journalist, the defender’s move to Paris Saint Germain has never been a big rumour in the local media, so that shouldn’t be a reason for Reds’ fans to be worried, unless they do believe there’ll be a lobby from national team players for him to make that move.
