Brighton and Hove Albion forward Andi Zeqiri has admitted he would like to stay at Basel in the summer if the possibility arises.
Zeqiri is currently on loan with the Swiss side after joining them in August in search of regular playing time away from the Seagulls.
It is the second loan deal he’s been on since joining Brighton in a €4m deal from Lausanne-Sport in 2020, having spent last season with FC Augsburg last season.
He’s impressed during his time in Switzerland, with six goals and two assists in 18 games in the Super League so far as well as four goals in eight games in the Europa Conference League.
Basel have an option to buy him on a permanent basis at the end of the season, but they are yet to indicate whether they will be activating that or sending him back to Brighton once the campaign is over.
If Zeqiri had his way, he’d be staying where he is, admitting that he is yet to speak to manager Roberto de Zerbi or anything at Brighton regarding his future.
“Who knows. We haven’t talked about it yet. I’m open to all options,” he told BZ Basel.
“If FCB wants to keep me and the offer is right, no matter how much. But we’ll look at that at the end of the season.
“Perhaps there is already a discussion going on in the background. But that doesn’t interest me at the moment. I want to perform.
“Gordon, a team manager, takes care of the loan players. We write to each other almost every week. That’s great. I congratulated my ex-coach Graham Potter when he was allowed to join Chelsea.
“I haven’t spoken to his successor Roberto de Zerbi yet. I’m here and I like it a lot, so I say Basel (when asked where he’d rather be next year).”
