Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee Gonçalo Guedes today spoke to the Spanish media about his switch to Villarreal.
The striker, who’d spent the past year on loan at Benfica, is now looking for some fresh air at a new club, and is reuniting with manager Marcelino Gatcia Toral at the Yellow Submarine.
Quoted by Super Deporte, the player highlighted the importance that the former Valencia manager had on his arrival.
“It was important that Marcelino was here, we have a great relationship. Now he’s asking me to work and I’m going to repay his trust with my sacrifice and helping the team.”
“I’m very excited. Having responsibility is not a problem for me. I accept it. This is a very professional club, with magnificent facilities and I hope to be able to contribute to doing important things. Physically I’m gradually getting better, I’m lacking a bit of playing time, but I hope to be able to play 90 minutes soon.”
Guedes had an unimpressive loan spell at Benfica in the first half of the year, as he was harmed by injuries, and despite having his deal renewed for a season, he couldn’t do much better.
That’s why the Eagles accepted the player leaving them in the middle of the season, and went to work to secure a replacement.
Wolves still have Guedes on a contract until 2027, and the Molineux side will certainly be hoping he does well at Villarreal to increase the chances of a permanent move in the summer.
