Eden Hazard, the subject of countless articles sending him to Real Madrid over the years, remains a Chelsea player for the time being.
With a contract running out in 2020 and no sign of him signing an extension in the near future, this season could very well be his last, set to be sold in the summer for fear of losing him on a free the year after that.
However, that’s a problem for future Hazard and future Chelsea, as their present selves are currently focusing on the task at hand: challenging in the Premier League.
Despite a great start, the Blues’ form has died down a bit in recent weeks as Maurizio Sarri’s men struggle to find the back of the net, scoring just four goals in their last five games and most recently losing to Arsenal 2-0 at the weekend.
Early on in the season, it seemed like the Italian manager had found the perfect role for Hazard, who was scoring and assisting nearly every game, but that form, much like his team’s, has taken a dip of late.
Speaking to France Football, the forward discussed his relationship with Sarri, and his past ones with his former managers, revealing a recurring theme.
He said: “I didn’t just frustrate Conte. In my career, I’ve frustrated all my managers, and now, I’m frustrating Sarri. I frustrated Mourinho. They all think you need to score more, do such and such more. I’ll also frustrate the next manager I have.”
That’s not necessarily a good sign, but it’s also understandable.
When you have a player of Eden Hazard’s talent, the expectations are very high, and you want to get the best out of him, leading to frustration if you can’t.
Better that than accepting a player’s limits.
