Tottenham’s new signing Marcos Senesi has spoken publicly for the first time since his late Argentina World Cup call-up, admitting he is fulfilling a lifelong dream after being drafted into Lionel Scaloni’s squad.
The centre-back was added to Argentina’s group following the injury suffered by Leonardo Balerdi, with the decision already confirmed earlier this week. The fresh development comes from Senesi himself, who has now shared his reaction in comments to TyC Sports.
Speaking to journalist Gastón Edul, the Tottenham defender said: “The truth is I’m very happy to have the chance to fulfil a dream I’ve always had, to be able to play in a World Cup.”
Senesi added that he was already preparing to leave and join up with the Argentina camp.
“Now I’m finishing packing everything and getting ready to travel as soon as possible. See you soon.”
Senesi ready after Tottenham move
What a week for Marcos Senesi. According to TyC Sports, the 29-year-old was on holiday in Ibiza when the call arrived. Despite initially missing out on Argentina’s final squad, he had continued training while waiting for any late developments.
The report explains there were two reasons for that decision. Senesi wanted to remain available in case Scaloni needed a replacement, and he was also preparing for the start of pre-season with Tottenham after completing his move from Bournemouth.
Senesi officially became a Tottenham player after leaving Bournemouth at the end of his contract. He arrives after four seasons on the south coast, where he established himself as a key figure and made more than 120 appearances for the Cherries.
Club and country reunion
The World Cup call-up means Senesi will now share both a club and international dressing room with fellow Argentine Cristian Romero.
Romero remains one of Tottenham’s most important players and captained the club during parts of last season. Senesi’s arrival already added Premier League experience to Spurs’ defensive options, and he now heads into the summer with the opportunity to feature at the biggest tournament in football.
For the defender, the move to Tottenham and a place at the World Cup have arrived within days of each other. His first public reaction makes clear how much the international opportunity means to him.
