Benfica full-back Alvaro Carreras has insisted he is overlooking any reports about Manchester United potentially moving to take him back to Old Trafford.
A Bola cover comments from the defender today in which he insists he’s put the constant rumours about him and Manchester United to one side.
The 21-year-old joined the Portuguese side from Manchester United on loan in January 2024 and hasn’t looked back since, eventually making the move permanent for €6m in the summer. Manchester United, though, have retained an option to take him back.
They’re yet to do so but numerous reports have linked them with a move as they continue to struggle in the full-back areas. The move for Patrick Dorgu in January seemingly delayed any efforts, though.
In the meantime, Carreras has been Benfica’s most utilised player this season, making 38 appearances in total, 36 as a starter and will be adding to that this week when they take on Barcelona in the Champions League.
The belief is he can take advantage of that game and showcase himself to the big clubs in Europe ahead of the summer, when big offers are expected to arrive.
Manchester United are likely to be one of those watching, adding to the rumours, which Carreras is ignoring for the time being.
“The truth is that I’m overlooking it a bit,” he said.
“I’m concentrating on what I have to do, because every three days I have a game. There’s always interest from teams and everyone wants to grow, but I’m doing very well here (at Benfica).
“Manchester United have an option to buy that has been signed, but I’m very happy here.”
