Santiago Bueno has made 27 appearances for Wolves so far this season, making it his most involved campaign since he arrived at the club from Girona in 2023.
He’s slipped a little down the pecking order in recent weeks, with manager Vítor Pereira having more options at his disposal following the winter market.
The 26-year-old missed the November international break with a muscle injury, and will hope he can convince Marcelo Bielsa to start him for Uruguay in the upcoming games.
Uruguay face Argentina and Bolivia in key qualifying games for the World Cup, and the Argentina match especially is a huge occasion for the country.
Bueno has already travelled from Wolves and arrived in South America, speaking to the media after he landed.
Specifically asked about his current situation at Wolves, there were no negatives to be shared.
ESPN Uruguay quote the defender as saying: “Very well, with plenty of playing time and a lot of confidence. I’ve had contact with the coaching staff about their match feedback and how they see me. The English league is full of transitions and counterattacks, so I’m adapting well.”
Bueno repeatedly made clear what an honur it is for him to be part of Bielsa’s squad, and how excited he is about the upcoming matches.
On that huge upcoming occasion against Argentina, he said: “It’s a derby. It’s a match where more than just your heart will be at stake, so let’s give it our all and hopefully bring joy to everyone.”
