Brighton and Hove Albion and Southampton can rule out any January transfer window moves for Koln star Said El Mala.

That’s according to the player himself, via Kicker. He’s insisted that he’s not going anywhere in the January transfer window.

El Mala has only played 12 Bundesliga games to date but is currently ‘the talk of the town’. His performances have been earning him plenty of attention. He has five goals to his name already, is Koln’s top goalscorer and is by far their highest rater player.

In fact, he’s only behind Harry Kane when it comes to ratings across the entire Bundesliga. He’s enjoying a rapid rise, particularly as last season he was shining in the third division on Germany. Now he’s starring in the Bundesliga and has been called up by Germany.

He’s already been linked with a move away. Bayern Munich are being credited with an interest, while Brighton and Southampton tried to sign him in the summer transfer window as well.

They both offered big money to tempt him away but were left disappointed. Now it appears both Brighton and Southampton face more disappointment if they plan on reviving their interest in January.

“I think it’s normal that when you’re a young player and you get a few points in the Bundesliga, several clubs come calling,” he said.

“I’m aware of it, but it doesn’t affect me. It’s a nice recognition of my performance, but I’m fully focused on FC Cologne and will stay here through the winter transfer window.”
